Proto-North Caucasian: *=eg(w)V
Meaning: to grow
Proto-Lak: laI=uk:a-
Proto-Lezghian: *ʔek:V-
Notes: A Lak-Lezg. isogloss. Not very reliable, because the Lak. word may be analysed as a compound "(from the) middle (laI)"+"go out"(=uk:a-). However, a good morphemic parallelism between the Lak. (laI=uk:a-) and the Rut. (l-e=g-) forms (both with prefixed l-) allow us to suppose that the archaic form in Lak. was recently reinterpreted under the influence of an etymologically different root =uk:a-.
