Lezghian etymology :

Proto-Lezghian: *ƛ̣ač̣a
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 stem, stalk 2 leaf 3 grain 4 pod 5 straw
Lezghian: q̇ač̣ 1
Tabasaran: ḳaž 2
Agul: ḳež 2
Rutul: q̇ač̣ 3
Tsakhur: ḳač̣a 4
Kryz: q̇äč̣ 1
Budukh: q̇ǝč̣ 5
Archi: ḳač̣i 2
Udi: k:äč: 3
Comment: In Ag. and Tab. there occurred a dissimilatory deglottalisation after the initial glottalised consnant; other forms go back regularly to PL *ƛ̣ač̣a, obl. *ƛ̣ač̣ä- (cf. Tab. ḳažu-, Ag. Tp. ḳeǯi-, Tsakh. ḳač̣a).

North Caucasian etymology :

Proto-North Caucasian: *ƛ̣ačă (~-ć-,-ĕ)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: leaf; a k. of plant
Proto-Avaro-Andian: *ƛ̣ačV (~-o-)
Proto-Lezghian: *ƛ̣ač̣a
Notes: An Aand.-Lezg. isogloss; correspondences are regular, and the PEC antiquity of the root seems probable. Rather aberrant is the Lak. form k:iž 'tops (of plants)'; it is similar, but absolutely irregular phonetically, and one feels tempted to consider it as a loan from some Agul or Tabasaran dialect (see above) - although other cases of borrowing in that direction are unknown to us.

Protoform: *ƛ̣ačV (~-o-)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 leaf 2 some edible plant
Avar: ṭamáč (dial.)1
Akhvakh: ƛ̣ača 2
Comments: The Av. form (paradigm C: plur. ṭánča-l) is quoted from Mikailov. It is probably a contamination of the expected *ṭač ( = Akhv. ƛ̣ača) with the more common Av. ṭamáχ 'leaf' (q.v.).
