The Global Lexicostatistical Database: Contributors

CONTRIBUTORS

This page lists the principal contributors to the GLD project who are either committed to improving the databases and the site on a regular basis, or have rendered valuable services for the project some time in the past.

George Starostin, Ph.D., is senior researcher at the Centre for Comparative linguistics (Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow) and head of the Chair for the History and Philology of the Far East of the Institute of Oriental Cultures (same institution), as well as head of the newly-formed Laboratory of Oriental and Comparative Studies at the School for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (RANEPA, Moscow). He is chief coordinator for the GLD project, as well as co-head of the more global project, Evolution of Human Language (Santa Fe Institute, New Mexico). He is also the current managing editor for the Moscow-based Journal of Language Relationship (Russian State University for the Humanities / Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

Principal interests include theory and methodology of historical linguistics; genetic and areal connections of several linguistic families in Eurasia (Dravidian; Yeniseian; Sino-Tibetan) and Africa (Khoisan); research on macrocomparative hypotheses (Nostratic, /Dene/-Sino-Caucasian, and others); history of Chinese language and Chinese philology in general. Alexei Kassian, Ph.D., is a lector at the Centre for Comparative linguistics (Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow) and a scientific associate of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Principal interests include: cuneiform languages of the Ancient Near East (Hittite, Hurrian, Hattic), macrocomparative hypotheses, areal interference between languages, theory and methodology of historical linguistics.

Мikhail Zhivlov, Ph.D., is a lecturer at the Centre for Comparative linguistics (Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow) and a research fellow of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Principal interests include: comparative grammar of Uralic languages, genetic and areal connections of Proto-Indo-European, Indo-European homeland and culture, comparative phonology of Altaic languages, native languages of North America, theory and methodology of historical linguistics.
