DOREMI FASOL LATIDO

<robert_watson@birmingham.gov.uk> (17.08.2001)

Doremi was, allegedly, originally mixed by the lads themselves throughout the course of an all-night acid trip.

Can't speak for the cd/digitally remastered version, but I've got the original UA vinyl pressing and the sound engineering is deadful: instruments move backwards and forwards (acoustically speaking) without rhyme or reason, the lead vocals sound as though Dave's singing from your upstairs toilet, and the synth hoots and twirls occaisionally blot out everything else. For all that, there's not a duff song on there.

Joshua Blinder <bronyaur@erols.com> (22.05.2004)

This one for me encapsulated everything Hawkwind was about or could ever hope to be about when you had both Brock and Nik Turner in the band. "Brainstorm" is a solid sheet of bludgeon that somehow still soars, while "Space is Deep" and "Down Through The Night" are the perfect crystallization of Brock's trippy-hippy side fused with his sci-fi side. And one CD worth of Del Dettmar and Dik Mik playing with their assorted electronic oscillators and the like beats out any prog-rock keyboard meisters bank of synths then and now. In fact, what really f**ked this band royally was when they decided to go more, uh, upscale in the electronics department. Michael Moorcock once characterised Hawkwind as what you'd probably get if a tribe of cavemen tried playing psychedelic music---as apt a description of this album as I've ever heard and worth every freaking PENNY!!

WARRIOR ON THE EDGE OF TIME

Ron Wright <Ron.Wright2@btinternet.com> (13.05.2001)

Agree with the comments that the guitar in virtually non existant but the band still play 'Assault' and 'Golden Void' today and they are superb.  Also this album was supposed to be based on the character Elric from Moorcock's The eternal Champion series of books.  Quite a few of the songs appear on Live Chronicles which was the show based on Elric years later.

Daniel J Williams <greyghost.2@juno.com> (30.05.2001)

i read your analysis on WARRIOR ON THE EDGE OF TIME. i think by far it is hawkwinds best studio work. you need to listen to it with headphones. some of there early sound is to acid drenched& garbled for me.i think they disconnected their acid drip iv to get serious so they could put this one together. we use to listen to this & NEKTAR back in the day.god help the disoriented youth of today, all they have is hip-hop rap crap to listen to.amazing sounds is good also, kerb krawler, reefer madness are two songs on this one.you need to find bob calverts CAPTAIN LOCKHEED & THE STARFIGHTERS good luck, i have it on vinyl.also try to find bob calverts REVENGE with a whopping 4 tracks on it. he died right after this recording.simon house has some good solo work too. do you know where i can find edge of time on CD. i dont want to play it with a phonograph any more. you missed one "hint" i can read your mind like a magazine, see where your at, know what you mean.freefall. know the album i mean? oh yes! also need space ritual @ brixton sundown 1973 live on cd.

QUARK, STRANGENESS AND CHARM

<Ianhamglen@aol.com> (29.05.2004)

Must be listened to wearing a flying helmet, goggles , white scarf and parrot on shoulder....machine gun optional.

PS Didn't they find another sub-atomic particle?

LEVITATION

<Ianhamglen@aol.com> (29.05.2004)

Personally after hearing this album I end my day going....... "Woooooshhh...duh,duh,duh...levitation, levitation,levitation....woooosh."

But I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

Yours pickily,   Brown the Cosmic Chancer
