Proto-Yenisseian: *xu-
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: to sit
Ket: ūŋ 'to sit, sit down'; cf. also ɔŋ-nǝś5 'bed'
Yug: uŋ 'to sit, sit down'; cf. also ɔŋ-tɨt́ 'to set'
Kottish: uŋ "sitting, living"; d́-auja-ŋ "to sit, live", praet. al-auja-ŋ, imp. aĺek; (Бол.) jan "I sit, live"
Arin: akum (Лоск.) "I sit"; akume "I live"
Comments: ССЕ 297. The final -ŋ is a historical suffix, as seen from the Kottish paradigm; Werner's (2, 380) reluctance to admit the connection between Kott. uŋ and Kott. d́-auja-ŋ appears completely unjustified.
