Proto-Yenisseian: *ʔol (~x-)
Sino-Caucasian etymology: Sino-Caucasian etymology
Meaning: grave
Ket: baŋuĺ5,6, pl. baŋɨĺaŋ5 (Werner 1, 105: báŋoĺ)
Yug: baŋɨl5,6, pl. baŋɨlɨŋ5
Kottish: ol, pl. ōlaŋ
Comments: ССЕ 197. Ket and Yug reflect a compound with *baʔŋ 'earth'; Kott. ol is also present in ol-tēg 'swamp'. Werner 1, 105 treats the second component as = *ʔoʔoL 'container' (q.v.), but separates the Kottish word. Elsewhere (2, 48) it is compared with Ket ɔʔĺ 'hull, suffusion' (see *ʔoʔl) - for quite obscure reasons.
