Proto-Eskimo: *pumcuɣ-
Meaning: snowshoe, boot-top, sole
Russian meaning: торбас, голенище, подошва
Comments: The Inupik data show a clear differentiation from *pumjuɣ- 'to pinch', but contamination in modern languages is nevertheless possible. It is interesting to compare this root with one of two possible KCh parralels: *pamja 'fur stockings' or *panša 'fur on lower parts of reindeer legs'. Comparative Eskimo Dictionary: 268
