\data\drav\kuiet
Proto-Kui-Kuwi : *Rel-
Meaning : to drag, pull
Gondwan etymology: Gondwan etymology
Kui : jelba (jes-) "to pull, draw; n. act of pulling, drawing"
Kuwi (Fitzgerald) : rejali (rec-)
Kuwi (Schulze) : rennai
Sunkarametta Kuwi : re'- (recc-) "to pull"
Additional forms : Also Kui pl. action jelka (jelki-); Kuwi_S rejja-koḍḍinai to drag
Notes : The Kuwi forms are dubious. On one hand, the initial r- is indeed comparable to forms like Kuwi_P rēmb- 'to rest' < *Rēmb- (although these are dialectal, it is possible to suppose a total development *R- > *r- depending on the following vowel). On the other hand, the second consonant in Kuwi is not *-l-, but -0-, and only the past tense (the forms with -c(c)-) can point to an old -l-.
Number in DED : 860
