Proto-Nilgiri : *kādǝl
Meaning : muscle
South Dravidian etymology: South Dravidian etymology
Kota : kādl "flat band of muscle on either side of backbone"
Toda : ? kōṣf- (kōṣt-) "to be envious"
Notes : It is not excluded that both forms belong together if (a) Toda kōṣf- < *kāṛ-ǝp- (= Tam. kāṛ) and (b) Kota kādl < *kāṛ-dal (= Mal. kātal). Cf. PN *kar-tal for a similar suffix. The semantics of the Toda form, however, is somewhat dubious.
