Dravidian etymology :

Search within this database
\data\drav\dravet
Proto-Dravidian : *bom-ik-
Meaning : bone
Proto-Telugu : *bomik-
Proto-Kolami-Gadba : *bok-, *būl-
Proto-Gondi-Kui : *būl-/*bok-
Notes : The forms *būl- are probably the result of an early contamination of this root with *mūl- 'marrow, bone'. Also interesting are the Kolami, Naiki and Gondi words for 'breast' (PKG *pom-, PGn *bom-); if they are related here, the word's original meaning could be 'breastbone'.
