North Caucasian etymology :

\data\cauc\caucet
Proto-North Caucasian: *q̇HwĂlć̣_Ĕ
Meaning: a k. of weed
Proto-Nakh: *bʡast ( ~ -ʕ-,-ā-)
Proto-Lak: q̇aIža
Proto-Khinalug: q:užur (?)
Proto-West Caucasian: *p-q̇ač̣́a
Notes: The Khin. reflex is rather dubious (both semantically and phonetically); all other forms correspond to each other regularly and may well go back to a single PNC form (name of some weed - although it is difficult now to reconstruct the precise meaning). Medial *-l- is reconstructed to account for the voicing in Lak. (*-lć̣_- > -ž-) and for the *st-reflex in PN.
