North Caucasian etymology :

\data\cauc\caucet
Proto-North Caucasian: *nŭlxV ( ~ *nɨ̆lxwV)
Meaning: a k. of foliage tree
Proto-Nakh: *mVχV
Proto-Lak: murx
Proto-Lezghian: *moʎ (~-u-,-ʎ:)
Proto-West Caucasian: *nǝx(ʷ)ǝ
Notes: In PEC there occurred a labial assimilation (*nŭlxV > *mŭlxV); we must reconstruct *n- for PNC, because *mŭlxV would have yielded PWC *PVxV. Although not very widely spread, the root seems safely reconstructable (since the meaning 'asp' is constantly recurring in different subgroups, it may have been the name of the asp-tree).

    See Abdokov 1983, 111 (Chech. : WC).
