Proto-West-Caucasian: *padǝ
Meaning: socks, stockings
Adyghe: ʎa-pad
Kabardian: ʎa-pad
Comments: PAK *ʎa-pádǝ (*ʎa "foot"). Ub. ʎapád "woolen socks" is probably an Ad. loanword (like Abkh. a-klapad). Shagirov (1977,251) derives *ʎapádǝ from *ʎapa 'front part of the foot' + *da "to sew" which is quite improbable in view of the external evidence.
