\data\cauc\aandet
Protoform: *gʷVnta ( ~ -o)
North Caucasian etymology: North Caucasian etymology
Meaning: 1 pit 2 hollow (of a tree)
Avar: gʷadár 2
Akhvakh: gatta (Tseg.) 1
Chamalal: gunta 1
Comments: Av. paradigm B or C (gen. gʷadrí-l); -d- obviously under the influence of gʷend 'pit' q.v. (note that there also exists Av. górdo 'window; hole' with an absolutely obscure Chad. parallel: górsu). Despite similarity, the root should be distinguished from PA *gʷandV q.v. (there is an opposition in Av. and Cham. between these two roots). [For Av. Chad. górsu cf. perhaps Ag. Bursh. gʷaršin 'window' - an equally isolated form].
