Proto-Hadza : *atha(ʔ)ma
Meaning : blood
Khoisan etymology : Khoisan etymology
Hadza : átama, pl. átamabe (B.); ʔatama (E.); ʔáthaʔmá- (S.); átàmâ (Tc.); átha_mà, á_thamà_ (TBW)
Notes : Also átabe 'bloodvessels' (D.B.). This form shows that the original root may have been simply *atha-. On the other hand, it is hard not to see any connection between this root and Proto-Afro-Asiatic *dam 'blood' (an argument, actually, in favour of a Hadza-Afro-Asiatic genetic connection, since no particular Afro-Asiatic languages can be identified as reliable borrowing sources here).
