Proto-Mongolian: *aɣu-lǯa-
Altaic etymology: Altaic etymology
Meaning: to meet, join
Russian meaning: встречаться, объединяться
Written Mongolian: aɣulǯa- (L 17)
Middle Mongolian: a'ulǯa-, a'ulča- (SH), a'ulǯa- (HYt) 'to have an audience of a khan'
Khalkha: ūlʒa-
Buriat: ūlza-
Kalmuck: ūlzǝ-
Ordos: ūlǯa-
Dagur: aulǯi- (Тод. Даг. 122), auleǯi (MD 116)
Comments: KW 454, MGCD 663, TMN 1, 169. A variant with h- is attested in the Leiden manuscript (hawulǯarin 'present'), but this is certainly not the reason for reconstructing *haɣu-lǯa- - against the overwhelming weight of other Middle Mong. sources and Dagur; it should be rather compared with Mongr. fūla- 'offrir, sacrifier' (105) (further perhaps to *hab 'sorcery' q. v. sub *p`ăp`a).
