Proto-Korean: *kùmìt
Altaic etymology: Altaic etymology
Meaning: hair on temples
Russian meaning: волосы на висках
Modern Korean: kwimit [kuimith]
Middle Korean: kùmìt, kumis
Comments: Nam 59, 65, KED 228. Both variants with -t and -s are early attested and it is hard to decide which one is original (because of the early confusion of -t and -s). The MKor. variant kui-mit(h), whence modern kwimit, is obviously a result of reinterpreting the word as *kui-mith 'roots of the ears'.
