Каннада значение:to pay unjustly, as rent for land on which the crop has failed; make a payment which is not properly due and on account of which one suffers loss
Каннада производные:accike paying unjustly
Комментарии:The comparison between Tamil ari and Kan. accu is justified, although it is somewhat strange that the primary variant arcu is not attested. In Tamil the corresponding verbal stem would have been *aruvu, and this is the exact form that is also found in Telugu.

Тамильские производные:arivai woman between the age of 20 and 25, woman, lady
Малаяльское значение:fine woman
Тулу значение:a neat or tidy woman
Комментарии:A Tamil-Malayalam isogloss of obscure origin. The Tulu form, entered here by Burrow & Emeneau, is oddly homonymous with aragiṇi 'talking parrot' and I cannot even exclude a special metaphoric development, especially considering that there is no evidence for a suffix like -giṇi in the language.
Комментарии:Some typically "plant root" problems with this etymon. In Tamil there are non-geminated forms suggesting a variant like *adá-. Much more interesting is the variant arti in Tulu; in the absolute majority of cases -r- found in Tulu clusters turns out to be original, and thus PSDR *arti is not entirely out of the question.

Тамильское значение:river's mouth
Тулу значение:mouth of a river, seaport
Комментарии:Burrow & Emeneau tentatively suggest comparison with *aẓi 'river's mouth'. This is quite possible for Tulu aruve, which may simply be a dialectal variant of aḷuve q. v., but hardly possible for Tam. aruvi. Likewise, Tulu auslaut vocalism -e is not a very good correspondence for Tam. -i, but fits in very well with Kan. aẓave q. v. As for Tam. aruvi, I would suggest that it is historically the same as aruvi 'waterfall, spring at the foot of a hill' q.v., although semantic contamination with *aẓi may have been possible.

Значение:not to be willing to pay
Тамильское значение:to show disinclination in a bargain
Тамильские производные:arukkāṇi reluctance to accommodate, closeness in a bargain
Комментарии:Burrow & Emeneau suggest relationship with *ari 'tax', but this is hardly possible, as the resulting derivative would rather mean 'to tax smb., make one pay'. I would rather view these items as a peculiar semantic shift from *ar- 'rare, scarce' (cf. Tam. arukku 'to make scarce, reduce', possibly > 'to bargain, be miserly'?).
