Kui :kopka (< kok-p-; kokt-) "to sit, sit down, sit on, settle down, subside; n. act of sitting, subsidence"
Kuwi (Fitzgerald) :kūgali
Kuwi (Schulze) :kugginai
Sunkarametta Kuwi :kug- (-it-)
Parja Kuwi :kog-
Dongriya Kuwi :gok-
Kuwi (Mahanti) :kupki ki- "to make to sit"
Kuwi (Israel) :kug- (-it-)
Notes :In Kuwi dialects -o- > -u- probably because of surrounding back consonants. This is also one of the cases when conjugations in Kui and Kuwi do not match: it is t-conjugation in Kui and it-conjugation in Kuwi.
Number in DED :1628
Proto-Kui-Kuwi :*kuguri
Meaning :dove
Kui :guguri
Kuwi (Fitzgerald) :kūgūri
Kuwi (Schulze) :kugguri
Sunkarametta Kuwi :kuguri
Parja Kuwi :kuguri
Kuwi (Israel) :kuguri
Notes :In Kui initial g- is assimilated by inlaut -g-.
Additional forms :Also Kui kūenju a Kond man or boy, fem. kūali; kui above, aloft, over; kuiki to the place above; kuiṭi from the place above; Kuwi_S kūita in the west
Notes :The word's structure is unique (no other cases of PK *ui), and the derivation process in Kui (kui 'above' - kūi 'those who are above') suspiciously reminds of Sanskrit vrddhi, although it's just a thought.
Number in DED :2178
Proto-Kui-Kuwi :*kul-
Meaning :to be scattered, unloosed, released
Kui :kul(u) inba
Additional forms :Also Kui kulu kulu inba hair to be untidy, falling round the head
Notes :We probably see a "weak cluster" here; the correspondences seem to match the correspondences in *cīnt-. However, Kuwi_S guntomi is most certainly borrowed from Telugu guṇḍamu 'fire-pit'.
Notes :B & E put here also Kui kopa hump, cow's hump, which should instead belong to 1743; and Kuwi_Su gu'u hump of ox, which they put also in 1927 where it should belong indeed. Typical for our friends.
Notes :Only if we trace the Kui form back to *kuṛɣa can we explain the unnatural metathese; as for -h- in the Letchmajee form, it is uncertain whether it represents the same *-ɣ- or is a different suffix. The same structure can be observed in PK *kirɣu 'ear'.
Kui :kruhu (pl. kruhka) "barking deer, jungle sheep"
Kuwi (Schulze) :kluhu "antelope"
Sunkarametta Kuwi :kruhu (pl. kruska) "antelope"
Parja Kuwi :kurhu "antelope"
Additional forms :Also Kui_P krusu (pl. kruska) barking deer, jungle sheep
Notes :The multiple metatheses are due either to paradigm unification (analogy with plural forms) or to the necessity of eliminating the cluster *-rs-.
