Meaning: round, circle
Chinese: *whrēn [but MCh ɣwạn pointing to a variant *whrān] turn round, *when id., 員 *wran circle, round.
Burmese: wanh be round.
Kachin: wan1 be in a circle, be coiled, (H) kǝwan to encircle.
Lushai: val to spread out in concentric waves, valʔ to make a slip-knot, noose or loop, KC *wal.
Comments: Cf. also Lush. hual to surround. The -e-vocalism in some Chinese forms may be due to contamination with 卷 *kʷrenʔ to roll. The Burm. and Jnp. forms can also belong to *qʷār q.v. Sh. 43; Ben 32; Mat. 184.
