Yenisseian etymology :

Search within this database
Proto-Yenisseian: *qōGV (~χ-, -ɔ̄-, -χ-)
Meaning: to hunt, to kill
Ket: qɔ:3
Yug: xo:3 / xou3
Kottish: oga-ʔa-čeaŋ 'to kill', ok-čex, ox-čex 'killing'
Comments: ССЕ 264. The stem clearly reflects a medial postvelar and should be distinguished from *qɔ- 'die' q.v. - although it may be a compound of some sort. Kott. og- (instead of *kog- or *hog-) may be due to a tendency of dissimilation of two velars in this language. Werner 2, 123 *qoGǝ.
